Screaming & Crying At Target

Target was in the Twilight Zone tonight.

My brother and I parked and watched what we thought was a strange character wander across the lot, behind a fence and into a construction area.  When he came out of the construction area he had a large rock in his hand.

The man continued back through the parking lot as my brother and I headed into the store.  While we were safely inside we saw the man go to a parked car and begin smashing the rock against the window.

WHAT?!?!?

Me and brother:  Oh my god!

Luckily before we could alert the authorities a woman standing nearby spoke up.  It was her car and they were locked out.

What???!

Surely there are better ways to get back into your car, but WHATEVER…..we went on our merry shopping way.

I always end my shopping in the book department.  Which in our Target is next to the toy department.  While browsing the new releases I could hear a father and a small child of about five or six years old having a conversation.  The child wanted something and the father told him ‘maybe next time’

Well, that’s when the child started to yell that he wanted whatever item has caught his eye.  He kept yelling louder and louder.  I think the child thought if he was loud enough the parent would give in and buy whatever he wanted.  WRONG.

The father began the long walk to the front of the store with the screaming child.  I couldn’t see them any more but boy could I still hear them.  Not once did I hear the father ask the child to settle down and be quiet.  What’s with that?

My brother and I headed to the front of the store with our purchases where there were three long lines.  My brother asked ‘what line do you want?’ and I replied ‘the one without the screaming child!!’  (i could still hear him off in the distance but couldn’t see him)  The woman in front of us told us the screamer was outside.  I laughed and said ‘hearing the word no must be alien to that kid’  and the woman replied ‘blame the parents’ and my brother piped in ‘bad parenting at it’s best!’

WELL……a woman in the line next to us (I think she was the mom of the screamer) said ‘I’m the parent and that conversation is inappropriate’  I couldn’t help myself.  I laughed OUT LOUD right in front of her and said ‘I find your lack of parenting skills disturbing!’  I would’ve said more but my brother moved me along into the check-out.

I never remember my parents taking us shopping and one of us having a tantrum and screaming making a scene like that!  I’m sure we misbehaved but have a public meltdown?  NO.  Confirmed tonight with my Mom.  It just didn’t happen.

This child was fine one moment and once was told ‘no’ snapped!

I think the next time someone tells me ‘no’ I’m going to have a tantrum!
